At the European Athletics Team Championships, the city of Braunschweig presents first-class athletics, something a true follower of the olympic core sport cannot miss: The focus is not on the single athlete when the continent's best twelve national teams compete in the Lion City's Eintracht stadium on 21-22 June next year. Different from the traditional top events in athletics, each result of the 20 disciplines for men and women respectively adds to the total points of his and her team. Team spirit wins!

The fans can look forward to outstanding performances at the European Athletics Team Championships: it was in Sweden's capital Stockholm in 2011 when top sprinter Christophe Lemaitre ran the 100m in just 9.95 seconds  – the best result of a European sprinter in seven years. From the continental elite, only Great Britain's Olympic, world and European champion Linford Christie and European champion Francis Obikwelu have ever run faster.

After the European Athletics Team Championships in 2009 replaced the former European Cup and the even earlier international matches, the revamped regulations with its one team counting for men and women, promotion and regulation among the four leagues and the European league table have created more and more acceptance for the still-young event format among athletics followers. This will receive another push in 2014 in Braunschweig. Athletic fans must be quick: 20,000 tickets only are available for each of the two competition days.
